NATURE'S WINDOW
A ten-foot-tall black lacquer and gold-leafed Aviarium® designed and hand-built by Paul for the Atlanta home of J. Ronald Terwilliger,
owner of the Atlanta Dream and Chairman of Habitats for Humanity.
A“Wizard of Id” comic strip, created by Paul’s friends and fans, Brant Parker and Johnny Hart (also of “B.C.” fame) is shown here
as it appeared in the international press on December 10,1989. Brant, who followed Paul’s entertainment in the Washington, D.C. area,
discovered his new invention, The Aviarium®, at his Nature’s Window showroom in Beverly Hills.
The first Nature’s Window showroom opened in Atlanta at The Galleria Mall in November of 1985. It rapidly became one of the
most popular retail stores in the state. An average of two or three magazine and newspaper articles per month were written about
the shop during the first year. Celebrity visitors claimed that it was their favorite place to bring friends. Additional
showrooms were later opened in Toronto, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, and Beverly Hills. Paul eventually closed all showrooms and returned
to his hometown in order to consolidate his entire business onto one property near Rome, Georgia.
Elaborate figured mahogany veneers and curly maple inlays have been custom fitted and applied in constructing this beautiful black-lacqueredAviarium® with custom “tapered and reeded” legs and gold-leaf trim.
The very rare and expensive Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo pictured here claims an equally expensive residence made from maple and hand-painted
with a solid brass lining. He was the crown jewel of Paul’s Nature’s Window showroom at The Galleria in Atlanta.
This Aviarium® was designed and constructed partially of man-made materials which featured an actual working waterfall incorporated
into the base.
